Dear Caleb Moore (my friend that just passed away),
If you were still here I would probably tell you about this production anyways because you always loved hearing about controversy and also beauty. This play was a compilation of interviews that were conducted after a tragedy happened and a black boy was ran over by a drunk jewish man. Riots struck out after this scene, and not surprisingly more deaths followed.
This play was especially interesting because the acting was played out by the same woman playing a different person. The woman who played these characters was also the person who conducted the interviews, so it made it more personable and interesting. Props and costumes helped her get into character even more. You would have actually believed she was a jewish man, or a poor black woman.
The subject of this play is powerful because it highlights the differences of people living in one place. The Jewish people and the African Americans in this particular area do not get along because of the differences in ideology, religion, violence, and ways of life. We could say the same thing about the place that we grew up, but with a lot less violence. If I were one of the people interviewed I would tell the interviewer that I could not imagine living in a community where I am actually scared of my neighbor. I pray for peace and continuity of understanding in every community that is being struck by events like these. I also pray for peace in your soul, Caleb, while you witness things like these from up above.
Thank you for listening
Your dear friend,
